Here's a challenge for our senior Chaverim!
My aunt recently told me that she and a group of other Irish Habonim were at the Bedford in 1939. Was I ever surprised. I thought Dublin Habonim only started around 1949-50.
My aunt, Sadie Coleman (nee Harris) recalls traveling on the ferry through Liverpool led by Rabbi Alony (z"l). Emmanuel Brown (z"l) who later had a well-known bookshop in Israel was one of the other leaders.
Her particular personal memory is of some "young man from London" who was "sweet on her". As she recalls it, while waiting for the train to take them back to Liverpool, he wanted to give her his address. So he threw his cap. with his address, across the rails from the opposite platform. But the cap never made it.
A couple of weeks later she got a call from Asher Benson (z"l") to tell that he had been contacted by the young man and would it be okay to give him her address? She said okay and did correspond with him for a while.
Here comes the kicker - at 85 years old and a great-grandmother she doesn't remember his name!!
Does this fit anyone you know?
